Introduction
Smeg in a group shot from Empire Magazine.

I had no idea I'd take any interest in this character. Initially, I was pretty indifferent toward him. Then my girlfriend showed me The Upside Down Show.

I did a complete 180. David Collins is a spectacular performer with impeccable comedic timing and an almost mind-boggling ability to make his precise movements look effortless. It also doesn't hurt that he's, y'know, really cute. I can't wait to see his character in action.

Just look at this sad, wet little man! He evokes some protective instinct in me. It's the same programming that makes me want to restore a beat-up old plushie or rescue a half-dead animal on the side of the road. Admittedly, this picture doesn't do him justice. But trust me. This guy is like... Stealthy hot. You don't see it coming, and then it hits you. Like someone hit the "truck" button on the remote. IYKYK.

Anyway, let's address the elephant in the room. This character's name is Smeg. Which is hilarious, of course, because it means dick cheese. But I think it's interesting that George Miller seems weirdly fixated on using this word in the Wasteland's lexicon. A variant of the word popped up in MM2, with the Smegma Crazies faction of Lord Humungus' crew. In Fury Road, we see the term "smeg" used as an insult, seemingly synonymous with "asshole" or "douchebag." Now we're getting a character with the name. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that the moniker is based on the insult, rather than a nickname earned due to questionable hygiene practices. But if it does have to do with cleanliness, well... Shh, I can fix him.
